Sweetie, Type-C Photographs face mounted on Perspex, 50 x 33.5cm (each image), 2004

This series of photographic works Sweetie was informed by a personal experience in relation to my own body and my experience of its mutability and fragility. During 2003 and 2004 I underwent a series of medical tests including an Ultrasound, CAT Scan (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in which I was diagnosed with a brain tumour on my pituitary gland, that affects my fertility. These works were informed by the experience of seeing the interior of my body using these technologies as well as an awareness of this condition, the consequences and impact of it. I used a macro lens to photograph form becoming formless and formlessness taking on form, by reducing the human form almost to the point of dissolution and non-recognition.
